Acting as hostess can be an intimidating and nerve-wracking experience. Vulnerability can set in when we imagine guests noticing that cluttered shelf we’ve been meaning to organize, or stress about serving a less-than-gourmet meal.

Although hosting can feel overwhelming in the midst of juggling myriad daily duties and obligations, I’ve found a few simple tricks that help calm my hosting jitters so I can quickly prepare my home, and then turn to focusing on what truly matters: making my guests feel warmly welcomed. Tidy up your main living space, add some ambience, and serve a simple tasty snack, and you’ll create an experience that leaves your friends and family feeling loved and cared for.
