How the Editors Wear White on White

Keep cool in head-to-toe white looks

Although Memorial Day is still around the corner, we've already dug out our summer whites to welcome the warmer weather (and who follows the Memorial Day rule anyway?!). Head-to-toe white is light, fresh, and airy—and a trend that has come back strong for this season. We challenged the editorial team to interpret the trend and create their own white-on-white ensembles. See below for your next white outfit inspiration!

“When wearing white on white, I love to go the casual safari route—all white with a hint of neutral. What can I say? I've always been a fan of Steve Irwin, rest his animal-loving heart. My white button-down shirt and sandals are from Barcelona. The cropped pants are from Banana Republic and work for my petite frame. A narrow braided belt from Massimo Dutti and a small cross-body clutch from Fossil are subtle enough to not overwhelm me, yet the matching color family pulls the look together. Jambo (Swahili for hello)! I'm ready for the Savannah.”

“White is probably my favorite color without a color (ha!), and I couldn't wait to wear it from top to bottom. Loose, long, and flowing is my gig, and I rediscovered this old white crepe-and-silk skirt in my closet from eighth-grade graduation (yes, eighth). Paired with a boxy silk short-sleeved top from Loft, Old Navy platform sandals, and my mom's purse from El Salvador, I'm in my hippie style heaven.”

“There is only one color I like more than black, and that's white! I wear white dresses and white tops all summer long, but I like to think that these oversize, high-waisted shorts paired with a tailored shirt would get Katharine Hepburn's nod of approval.”

Lace-Cotton Shirt, H&M, similar here / Jacket, H&M / Pants, Talbots

“I remember getting this white clothing combination years ago while working in Washington, D.C. In an office where sartorial expression was limited to the confines of a suit, I was pleased when I found a washable white blazer at H&M and white trousers on sale at Talbots to match. Now, I pair it with a newer H&M cotton-and-lace top for some feminine flair, and ta-da! Can't touch this. (No really, my kids can't touch this outfit, or I'm going to have to pull out the bleach.)”

Cape Jacket, Zara / Tank, Zara / Coated Trousers, Zara

“I generally don't trust myself around white clothing (especially with a mug of coffee in hand!), but when I do, I like clean, crisp lines and blocky shapes. This cape blazer adds a polished look to any outfit, although I likely won't be doing cartwheels in it any time soon.”

Skirt, Gap Outlet / Top, Gap Outlet

“My local Gap Outlet is my go-to for comfortable, affordable clothes. Lately, I love this casual duo of whites. Wearing long skirts is always my preference, and when paired with this loose bohemian-inspired shirt, I can keep cool during the hottest of days.”
