Runway to Realway: Precious Metals

Runway to Realway has always been one of our favorite columns at Verily. Perhaps it's because it is the fashion feature that most touches at the heart of our mission—to help women become the best versions of themselves. Runway to Realway has the ability to take the intimidating world of high fashion and make it accessible, practical, and applicable to every woman. This season we're inspired by the metallic trend that has glitzed the spring 2014 runways of Roberto Cavalli and Max Mara to Tory Burch and Proenza Schouler.

This month, our dear friend Jessie Artigue of Style & Pepper shows us how to mix the rich metallic trend into modern everyday wear!

In Jessie's words:

Metallics may feel like they’re meant only for special occasions or a weekend night out, but I love using them to amp up the shine of just about any look.  The key is to reach for pieces that compliment your favorite everyday basics; that way you can sneak them seamlessly into your wardrobe without looking like a Fourth of July sparkler.

Elisa Crye, 25, @ecrye, Maître d'at Fung Tu Restaurant@FungTuNYC

For Elisa, I chose a gorgeous, drapey knit dress with a metallic zigzag pattern and added a military-inspired vest plus casual gold sandals to give the look more of a laid-back vibe. She works at a swanky restaurant at night, so removing the vest and adding a pair of ankle booties would take the look from daytime to evening in a flash.

Since Melinda is a work-at-home mom, she spends a lot of time with her kiddos (but loves to wear high heels!), so the shimmery silver thread woven into this T-shirt makes a perfect addition to the comfortable drawstring trousers paired with a darling pair of neutral wedges. She's polished enough to dash off to a meeting, but just as chic when if she chooses distressed denim and ballet flats.
