To be honest, I struggle.
There are times when I look into the mirror and am quite hard on myself. In my most pathetic, self-destructive and delusional moments, my entire day can be dictated by whether or not I’m satisfied with the reflection I see staring back at me. I can nit-pick the tiniest of things, and then allow it to throw me into a sour and disagreeable mood that everyone gets to enjoy. In those instances, getting dressed and applying makeup becomes a cumbersome chore I’d rather do without.
Heaven knows that isn’t a healthy attitude. I’d venture to say we’ve all done the same at some point in our lives. For those of us who struggle with seeing ourselves clearly, the bombardment of cliché New Year’s resolutions doesn’t help the battle with those scrutinizing mirror moments.
So I've decided to say "Enough already!" I have been trying over many years to understand where my true worth and beauty lies, and it's about time I started to treat myself kindly rather than worry about whether I’m enough or not. With this in mind, I propose that we all be more kind to ourselves. What do you say?
Despite my aversion to New Year’s Resolutions, I’ve decided to make a concrete goal and invite you all to join me. Everyday, when I look in the mirror I will say at least one thing I appreciate about myself, even when I don’t feel like it. This isn’t about some “feel good mantra,” but a real exercise in learning about yourself, your worth, and your undeniable beauty.
We’re starting the challenge with our very own Verily team. Will you join us?
