October has finally arrived, so break out the infinity scarves, caramel apple spices, pumpkin bread, and toasty fires. This month typically calls for bleak days and grey skies, which to some can be rather depressing. But if we use the right tools to deal with the atmosphere, we can turn these days into a blissful autumnal ambiance. Since music is associative and able to trigger certain feelings in the human brain, there's no better way to get into a cozy fall mood than to surround ourselves with jazzy blues, atmospheric synths, and soothing vocals.

S O H N – The Wheel
S O H N is a brand new UK and Vienna based producer who absolutely shocked the musical blogosphere last week with his debut single “The Wheel.” His EP is set to release November 5, so we can expect a tasty playlist of meandering synths and crisp vocals.
TEEN – Roses and Wine
This all-female band’s dreamy synths take you back in time to the days you anxiously awaited the call from your crush, who finally asked you to wear his varsity pin. Listening to their whole In Limbo album will make you want to lay in bed with a glass of wine and chocolate and start writing love notes in the old diary.
Mr. Little Jeans – The Suburbs
Airy synths cradle her breathy yet extremely feminine voice, which may or may not sink you into a pleasant coma; this is the ultimate chill song.
The Golden Filter – Moonlight Fantasy
Something pleasantly ominous about her stunning vocals and their ambiguous beats leave you feeling reasonably pensive. “Moonlight Fantasy” is the perfect track to play on beautiful October harvest moon nights.
MS MR – Dark Doo Wop
It was love at first listen when I heard MS MR’s “Hurricane” single; since then I’ve kept my eye on these two Brooklyn natives, seeing them play live at Glasslands and keeping an ear out for every track they release. Her rich voice is uniquely refreshing, and their moderately haunting lyrics are ripe for Halloween season.
The xx – Angels
The xx always soothe the soul to a point of tranquility; it's perfect for cozying up to a fire on chilly fall days. They just released a new LP, Coexist, and the whole album is a plethora of laidback, dreamy pop sounds that will rock you right into reverie. Coexist favored tracks: “Fiction” and “Swept Away.”
Owen – Too Many Moons
Any song that incorporates lightly strummed guitars, storybook lyrics, and beautiful violins is a song for me, especially during the fall months. Owen’s entire Ghost Towns album is the perfect accompaniment to a warm blanket and hot cider on cozy fall afternoons.
Lana Del Rey – Blue Velvet
The queen of modern blues: Miss Lana Del Rey. Her voice is the epitome of hypnotic. Any song of hers is perfect for dreary days spent sitting and staring out that rainy window. Check out the music video; it’s a very David Lynch inspired masterpiece that sends you screaming back to the 1950s.
