Give Your Shoes a DIY Makeover With These Easy Embellishments

Updating your shoe collection doesn't require emptying your wallet on expensive brands at a department store. Sometimes you can just get a little creative. If you're tired of  your basic flats and pumps, try embellishing them with these crafty DIY projects.

Whether you choose delicate feminine lace accents, a subtle sparkle, or mod color blocking, your shoe makeover will have your friends asking, "Who designed your shoes?" and you can have the joy of saying, "Why, me!"

FEMININE LACE//

Supplies:

  • High Heel Pumps

  • Strong Craft Glue (such as E6000)

  • Toothpick

  • Lace Appliques (2)

01. Determine the placement of each lace applique.

02. Using the toothpick, add a small amount of glue to the back of the applique.

03. Place on the heel and press gently.

04. Repeat on the second shoe. Let dry completely.

MOD TIP//

01. Add masking tape across the toes of the flats.

02. Evenly apply paint.

03. Continue until toe is completely covered.

04. Repeat on the second shoe. Let dry completely.

05. Remove the masking tape. (I used acrylic paint in the tutorial.)

ADD SHOE CLIPS FOR EXTRA STYLE:

Supplies:

  • Metal Shoe Clips (2)

  • Pair of Stud Earrings

  • Heavy Duty Pliers

  • Strong Craft Glue (such as E6000)

01. Using the cutting portion of the pliers, bend/cut off the earring post.

02. Glue the flat side of the shoe clip the back of the earring component.

03. Repeat steps one and two with the second earring.

04. Let dry overnight.

05. Clip onto your favorite shoes!

SOLE SPARKLE//

Supplies:

  • High Heel Pumps

  • Matte Finish Decoupage

  • Plastic Spoon

  • Small Plastic Cup

  • 1” Wide Foam Brush

  • Extra Fine Glitter

  • Masking Tape

  • Scrap Paper (to protect work surface)

01. Add masking tape to the edges of the heels’ undersides.

02. Pour about 2 tablespoons of decoupage into the cup.

03. Add about 2 tablespoons of glitter.

04. Using the foam brush, mix well.

05. Apply a layer of the glitter mixture to the underside of the heel.

06. Repeat on the second shoe and let dry overnight. If needed, apply a second layer by repeating steps two through five.

07. Remove the masking tape.
