Is sweaty hair that clings to the back of your neck killing your midsummer night’s dream? Are you out of clever ideas to keep your hair back? This summer, ditch that topknot and opt for one of these 'dos that’ll keep you cool through the heat and humidity.

Want a little extra help on how to pull these off? Well, we're taking a vote! Let us know which one of these you want more details on, and we'll produce a step-by-step video tutorial so you can master the look yourself. Vote at the bottom of the page to let us know which style you want to see featured in our next beauty tutorial.

01. FISHTAIL

Like the grown-up cousin of the beloved big braid, the fishtail is one of our favorite ways to get our hair off our face. Try this to-the-side look, which gets even more chic when face-framing tendrils fall out and the plait is a little roughed up.

02. MILKMAID BRAIDS

Not trying to look like Heidi this summer? Don't worry. Simply start with texturized hair (even better if it hasn't been washed in a day) to add a beachy vibe to this braid. It will make the 'do look totally sophisticated, not childish⎯and it looks even cooler the more disheveled it gets.

03. SCARF WRAP

Rosie the Riveter had it right. This easy style is as versatile as the number of scarves and bandanas you have in your wardrobe. Your hair can be a hot mess under the wrap and no one will know. Just pull or clip your hair back into a ponytail or messy bun and tie the scarf on. Finish by pulling a few tendrils of hair out in front of the scarf to soften the look around your face.

04. BUBBLE PONY

Does anyone remember this 'do from the nineties? This summer, the bubble pony becomes new again and we’re excited to rock it out. Pull your hair back into a high pony. Tease the pony and put one elastic a third of the way down the pony. Continue all the way down the ponytail, re-teasing if extra volume is desired. Expert tip: Tiny, metal-free elastic bands work best for this!
